Family & Spouse Visas in Qatar
Sponsoring a partner, children, or parents
A resident may sponsor a spouse and children if income and housing conditions published by the Ministry of Interior are met, and the dependants' permits then run for as long as the sponsor's own permit does. Sponsorship of parents and of other relatives is possible in narrower circumstances and is assessed case by case.

The conditions attached to family sponsorship
- A minimum monthly salary, with the published figure differing according to whether the employer also provides accommodation.
- Housing considered adequate for a family rather than shared or employer-camp accommodation.
- Attested and legalised marriage and birth certificates, which is usually the slowest part of the process because attestation happens in the country of origin.
- A medical examination for dependants above a specified age, and enrolment in health insurance.
- Occupation is relevant in practice: the categories eligible to sponsor family are not the same for every job title, and this is set out in the residency rules rather than negotiated with the employer.
Dependants hold a derived status
A sponsored spouse or child does not hold residence in their own right. The permit is derived from the sponsor's, expires with it, and is cancelled if the sponsor's employment ends.
A sponsored spouse may work, but only after a separate work permit is issued with the consent of the sponsor and an employer. Holding a family residence permit is not by itself permission to take a job.
The consequence is that divorce, bereavement or a lost job affects the whole household's legal position at once, which is a materially different risk profile from countries where dependants acquire independent status over time.
Family visit visas
Short family visit visas are available for relatives who are not being sponsored for residence, and are handled through the Ministry of Interior's online services. They are temporary, do not lead to residence, and their conditions are published rather than negotiated.
